Role Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and caring Nursery Assistant to join our team. This unqualified position is ideal for individuals who have a passion for working with young children and are eager to develop their skills within an early years setting. While formal qualifications are not required, an understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and a willingness to learn are essential for providing quality care and education to children. Additionally, the role will involve assisting with the planning and delivery of small activities that support the children's learning and development.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist nursery staff in providing a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for children in line with the EYFS framework.

  • Support children with daily activities, including feeding, dressing, and toileting.

  • Supervise children during play, ensuring they are safe and engaged in age-appropriate activities that support their development according to the EYFS.

  • Encourage children’s social, emotional, and educational development through interaction and play, following the principles of the EYFS.

  • Help set up and tidy up learning and play areas, ensuring everything is kept clean and safe.

  • Monitor children’s behavior and communicate any concerns to the Nursery Manager or Supervisor.

  • Assist in observing and recording children’s progress, ensuring all observations align with the EYFS framework and contribute to the development of individual learning plans.

  • Support in planning and delivering small activities that align with the EYFS, catering to the developmental needs of the children.

  • Assist in preparing materials and resources for activities, ensuring they are suitable and engaging for the children.

  • Follow health and safety procedures to maintain a safe environment at all times.

  • Support in implementing nursery routines and activities, including naps, meals, and outings.

  • Foster positive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues in a way that supports the ethos of the EYFS.

Skills and Attributes:
  • A genuine interest in working with young children and helping them develop.

  • An understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, or the willingness to learn more about it.

  • Ability to assist in the planning and delivery of small, developmentally appropriate activities for children.

  • Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills.

  • Ability to work as part of a team and take direction from senior staff.

  • A positive, friendly, and approachable attitude.

  • Ability to engage children in a fun, educational, and stimulating way, using principles of the EYFS to support their development.

  • Willingness to learn and take on new challenges.

Qualifications:
  • No formal qualifications required for this role.

  • Previous experience in childcare or a similar setting would be advantageous

  • A current First Aid certificate or willingness to undertake training (if required).

  • An understanding of the EYFS framework or a willingness to develop knowledge in this area through training and hands-on experience.
