Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced and dedicated Learning Support Mentor to support our students with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities, including those with hearing impairments, ASD, Physical Access needs, Learning Disabilities, Visual Impairments and Speech and language difficulties.
The primary purpose of this job role is to Support students with learning difficulties and disabilities to become empowered so that they can fully access the curriculum and successfully achieve their programme of study through their development of greater independence.
We are looking for a fantastic individual to come and join our team at our college. This role is Full time and permanent, working term time hours. We are looking for someone with experience working and supporting students with SEN, within an educational environment.

Role responsibilities are as follows:
Work in collaboration with the subject lecturing staff and assessors, under the direction of the Learning manager, within a wide variety of learning environments and situations.
Support students to access these curriculums both within and outside of a classroom environment including: reading out of materials, note taking, word processing, using enabling technologies, definition of language and other metacognitive skills.
Empower young people to achieve their personalised learning outcomes, including Education, Health and Care Plan outcomes and targets.
Adaptation of class resources in order to ensure students are able to access learning materials, i.e. enlarging text, modifying carrier language, etc.
Promote independence and empower students to make progress towards their achievement and champion learning support and inclusion
Provide support outside the formal classroom setting e.g. at breaks, Lunch, and on pre-arranged trips where needed and the delivery of study programmes off the college campus.
Maintain records in accordance with the support guidelines relating to student attendance, target-setting and progression and ensure daily Pro-monitor records reflects the support provided.
Attend and contribute effectively to team meetings and focus on learning support improvements.
Person Specification:
- Good academics across the board
- Experience supporting pupils with SEN: ASD, ADHD, physical needs, Speech and Language difficulties
- Experience working with 16+ or in college/university setting is advantageous
- Calm and proactive in nature
- Ability to think on your feet
- Must be able to commit to term time hours on a full time basis
- Behaviour management skills are advantageous
