The Opportunity

A specialist engineering business is looking to recruit a Trainee / Installation Mate to support its experienced security and industrial door engineers on commercial and industrial sites across the UK. This is an excellent long-term career opportunity for someone looking to enter the security door industry, gain qualifications, and progress into a fully qualified Installer role.

The successful candidate will work alongside skilled engineers, learning to install high-security, fire-rated, and industrial doors while developing technical skills, understanding industry standards, and gaining hands-on experience.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

Assist Engineers with installation of timber, steel, fire-rated, and high-security doors.

Help prepare work areas, remove existing doors/frames, and tidy workspaces.

Support in fixing and adjusting hardware including hinges, locking systems, closers, and access components.

Carry out basic measuring, marking, drilling, and cutting under supervision.

Load, move, and handle materials and equipment safely.

Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicle standards.

Follow instructions to support accurate paperwork and site documentation.

Maintain excellent health and safety practice on all sites, using PPE and following site rules.

Represent the business professionally at all times with clients and site teams.

 

 

Skills & Attributes Required

Eagerness to learn a skilled trade and build a long-term career.

Good practical skills and willingness to work with tools.

Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.

Ability to follow instructions and learn technical information.

Good communication and positive, professional attitude.

Physically fit - able to lift and manoeuvre heavy equipment.

Full UK Driving Licence.

CSCS card (or willingness to obtain).

 

 

Desirable but Not Essential

Experience in a trade, construction, or engineering environment.

Any basic tool-use or site experience.

Interest in security doors, carpentry, metalwork, construction, or access control systems.
