Ecological Consultant - Cardiff (Hybrid)Environmental Consultancy | Terrestrial Ecology

A well-established and forward-thinking environmental consultancy is looking for an experienced Ecological Consultant to join its Cardiff-based terrestrial ecology team. This is a hybrid position involving a mix of fieldwork, ecological report writing, and client engagement.

Role Overview - Ecological Consultant

As an Ecological Consultant, you will:

  • Lead and support ecological field surveys including Phase 1 Habitat Surveys, Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), and Protected Species Surveys
  • Prepare accurate, concise technical reports aligned with planning and legislative frameworks
  • Liaise with clients, planners, and stakeholders on ecological issues and project timelines
  • Support delivery of biodiversity net gain (BNG) and ecological mitigation strategies
  • Undertake regular seasonal fieldwork across varied project sites
Requirements

Essential:

  • Previous experience in ecological consultancy or a similar ecological role
  • Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • Demonstrable experience in writing ecology reports (PEAs, PRAs, EcIAs)
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork
  • Associate or Full Member of CIEEM (or eligibility for membership)

Desirable:

  • Valid protected species licences (e.g. bat, great crested newt, dormouse)
  • Experience leading ecological surveys or managing small projects
  • Familiarity with GIS tools or data analysis in ecology
