Key Responsibilities

  • Assist teaching staff in implementing differentiated learning activities and targeted interventions.

  • Provide direct support to pupils with ALN, ensuring access to learning in line with individual development plans (IDPs).

  • Support personal care routines where required, including feeding, mobility assistance, and hygiene tasks.

  • Contribute to behaviour-regulation and communication strategies in line with school policies.

  • Monitor and record pupil progress, noting changes in behaviour, engagement, or wellbeing.

  • Maintain a safe, orderly classroom environment and follow all safeguarding and health-and-safety protocols.

  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and external agencies as directed.

  • Assist with preparation of classroom materials and structured learning resources.



Essential Criteria

  • Experience supporting children or young people with ALN in educational, clinical, or care settings.

  • Ability to follow detailed plans and deliver consistent, structured support.

  • Strong communication skills with pupils, staff, and families.

  • Reliability, professional conduct, and the capacity to work within multidisciplinary teams.

  • Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities in a school environment.



Desirable Criteria

  • Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent).

  • Experience working in a special school or specialist provision.
