Experienced Life Skills Teacher

Zen Educate is seeking a dedicated and experienced Life Skills Teacher to join our team and support students with diverse needs, particularly those presenting challenging behaviours. This role requires a compassionate, patient, and resilient educator with a proven track record in delivering life skills education within a specialist or alternative educational setting.

As a Life Skills Teacher, you will be responsible for designing and implementing engaging, practical lessons that promote independence, social development, emotional regulation, and daily living skills. Your experience in managing and de-escalating challenging behaviours will be key to creating a safe and supportive learning environment where all students can thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver a comprehensive life skills curriculum tailored to students with additional needs and behavioural challenges.

  • Foster a positive, structured, and consistent classroom environment that supports social, emotional, and behavioural development.

  • Implement strategies to manage challenging behaviours, including positive behaviour support plans and de-escalation techniques.

  • Work collaboratively with support staff, therapists, and families to develop and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

  • Monitor student progress and adapt teaching methods to meet evolving needs.

  • Promote independence, resilience, and self-confidence in all students.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Life Skills or Special Education Teacher, preferably within an SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) or SEN setting.

  • Strong understanding of behavioural management techniques and experience working with students who present challenging behaviours.

  • Relevant teaching qualifications (e.g., QTS).

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Commitment to inclusive education and the belief that every student can succeed with the right support.
