Senior Quantity Surveyor

We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a Tier 1 contractor on a major highways project in Carlisle. This is a freelance role, initially for 6 months, focused on managing change and administering NEC contracts. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring commercial control, particularly around variations, compensation events, and accurate cost reporting.

Key Responsibilities
·Change Management: Lead on identifying, preparing, and managing compensation events and variations, ensuring they are accurately captured and reported.
·Contract Administration: Work under NEC contracts (Options A & C preferred), managing notices, payments, and contractual obligations.
·Commercial Reporting: Support with CVRs, cost forecasts, and financial reporting to ensure accurate project performance tracking.
·Subcontract Management: Oversee subcontractor accounts, including valuations, payments, and change control.
·Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, planners, and the wider commercial team to ensure aligned commercial strategy.

Requirements
·Experience Level: Proven track record as a Senior Quantity Surveyor (minimum 6-8 years post-qualification).
·Contracts: Essential - hands-on NEC experience, particularly around change/compensation events.
·Sector Background: Highways experience is desirable, but strong change management expertise within civil engineering/infrastructure is key.
·Commercial Acumen: Strong analytical, negotiation, and reporting skills with attention to detail.
·Availability: Able to start at short notice and commit to a 6-month freelance contract.
·Qualifications: Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or equivalent.
