Road Safety Engineer (Client & Project Manager)
Contract: intially 6 months
Location: Chatham (Hybrid - home working available)
Rate: 40 per hour
Start: ASAP
My client is seeking an experienced Locum Road Safety Engineer to join their highways team on an initial 6-month contract. This hybrid role offers flexibility with some home working, but will also require site visits and attendance as needed to support project delivery and road safety initiatives.
Key Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years' demonstrable experience in a Highway Engineering or Road Safety Engineering role
- Strong understanding of road safety audits, collision investigation, highway design principles, and safety improvement schemes
- Ability to assess risks, propose mitigation measures, and produce clear technical reports
- Confident working autonomously, attending site inspections, and liaising with stakeholders
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
Key duties:
- Carry out road safety audits, reviews, and collision studies to identify risks and improvement opportunities.
- Act as the Client representative for road safety projects, preparing briefs and supporting scheme development.
- Oversee the delivery of road safety workstreams, ensuring projects are completed on time and to required standards.
- Assess and respond to road safety enquiries from the public, Members, and other stakeholders.
- Liaise with internal teams, contractors, and partner organisations to support safe and effective project delivery.
- Review and approve technical drawings and documentation related to road safety schemes.
- Provide clear technical advice on road safety engineering and audit processes.
