About the Role
Hays are recruiting an Interim Financial Controller (initial 3-month contract) for a manufacturing SME based just outside Chelmsford. This is a hands-on role requiring strong cost accounting expertise and the ability to interpret and explain financial variances. You'll support the business through a period of transition and will be required to be on-site 5 days a week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead cost accounting, variance analysis, and stock/WIP reporting
- Deliver insightful financial commentary and analysis using Excel (advanced formulas, no VBA)
- Use Power BI to enhance reporting and analysis (highly desirable but not required)
- Manage a small finance team of 3-4
- Oversee audit preparation and liaise with external auditors
- Understand invoice financing and insured debt processes
- Review payroll and ensure correct journal postings in collaboration with team
About You:
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- Proven experience in manufacturing finance roles
- Strong Excel and data analysis skills
- Ability to "tell the story" behind the numbers
- Comfortable managing a small team and working independently
- Power BI experience is a significant advantage
