We are recruiting for a Sous Chef to join the kitchen team of a high-end care home in Chelmsford, known for delivering a premium dining experience to residents in a modern and well-equipped setting.

This is an ideal opportunity for a skilled chef with gastro pub or hotel background who is looking to move into a high-standard, slower-paced environment with consistent hours and strong work-life balance.

The RoleWorking closely with the Head Chef, you will assist with all aspects of food preparation and kitchen management, helping to deliver beautifully presented, nutritionally balanced meals that cater to a range of dietary requirements. With a focus on fresh ingredients and restaurant-style presentation, this role suits someone who takes pride in their food and thrives in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and preparing meals to a high standard
  • Support the Head Chef with kitchen operations, stock control, and compliance
  • Ensure food safety and cleanliness standards are maintained at all times
  • Work effectively with a small team of chefs and kitchen assistants
  • Help to innovate and refresh menus seasonally

Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience as a Sous or 2nd Chef, ideally in gastro pubs, hotels or high-end care
  • A passion for quality food and attention to detail in presentation
  • Experience with dietary adaptations and allergy awareness
  • Strong teamwork, reliability, and professionalism

Hours & Benefits

  • 40 hours/week over 4 days (1 weekend on, 1 off)
  • £17.00/hour + paid overtime for special events and annual leave cover
