Highways Development Engineer
Location: Essex

Are you an experienced and motivated engineer looking to make a real impact on the future of highways infrastructure? Our client is seeking a talented Highways Development Engineer to join their Development Management team, working on a high-profile contract in partnership inEssex.

In this exciting role, you'll use your expertise to lead and carry out technical assurance for developer-designed highway schemes. You'll ensure the highest standards of service delivery for planned works while contributing to the broader vision and priorities of the County Council.

What You'll Be Doing:
路Review and approve detailed designs for new highways and improvements to existing infrastructure
路Ensure developer works are suitable for adoption by the Highway Authority
路Represent the Highway Authority in local planning consultations
路Provide clear, timely advice to developers, councillors, and stakeholders
路Attend and chair design meetings, respond to technical queries, and manage statutory processes
路Initiate and support the legal adoption of developer infrastructure
路Liaise closely with internal teams, local councils, and the public
路Assist and occasionally deputise for senior engineering staff

What We're Looking For:
路A degree, HNC, or equivalent experience in highways or civil engineering
路Proven experience in delivering highway schemes within major development projects
路Sound understanding of the Highways Act 1980, CDM 2015, and relevant legislation
路Strong attention to detail, communication, and stakeholder management skills
路Competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
路A full UK driving licence is desirable, as site visits are a key part of the role
