Our client, a leader in the highways sector, is currently seeking a Senior Highway Engineer (Development Management) to join their team in Essex. This permanent, full-time role is focused on ensuring the design and construction of developers' highway infrastructure works meet the standards required by the Highway Authority for adoption as public highways.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Highway Authority with consultations with the Local Planning Authority for proposed developments
  • Agree detailed designs and ensure planning permission conditions/obligations are met
  • Attend/Chair meetings and address site/design queries promptly
  • Undertake extensive stakeholder liaison both internally and externally
  • Ensure statutory processes are followed when necessary
  • Instruct legal agreements to adopt developers' infrastructure works as public highways
  • Provide timely and accurate advice on highway-related matters to various parties
  • Manage and provide technical direction to team members on all aspects of highway services


Job Requirements:

  • Educated to degree level in a related subject or equivalent proven experience in highways and/or transportation
  • Evidence of continuing professional development, ideally with membership in a professional institution such as CIHT
  • Detailed knowledge of Highway Legislation, design procedures, and relevant engineering techniques
  • Expertise in national guidance, legislation, and regulations relating to highway schemes, particularly the Highway Act 1980 and CDM 2015
  • In-depth understanding and experience with Health and Safety legislation
  • Strong ability to build collaborative networks and partnerships for joint delivery
  • Demonstrated project management experience with familiarity in project management tools and Microsoft applications
