We're recruiting for an experienced Structures Engineer to join a well-established highways team delivering a varied programme of structure replacement, refurbishment and improvement schemes across Essex.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with strong technical expertise in highway structures design who is looking to take ownership of schemes, provide technical leadership, and mentor junior engineers while working on complex and high-profile infrastructure projects.
The Role
Reporting to the Team Leader, you'll be responsible for planning, coordinating and delivering highway structures schemes from design through to implementation. You'll play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high technical standard, while working collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include:
路Leading the design, planning and programming of highway structures works
路Delivering structure replacement, refurbishment and improvement schemes
路Applying design standards including Eurocodes, DMRB and MCHW
路Providing clear technical and project leadership across assigned schemes
路Managing and monitoring works programmes and consultant/contractor performance
路Ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations and Health & Safety policies
路Mentoring junior staff and checking technical outputs
路Supporting budget management, governance and cost control
About You
We're keen to speak with candidates who combine strong technical capability with the confidence to lead and collaborate effectively.
You'll ideally have:
路Proven experience in highway structures design and delivery
路Strong knowledge of Eurocodes, DMRB and modern design standards
路Working knowledge of contract specifications and the Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW)
路Extensive understanding of highway legislation, structures procedures and industry best practice
路Experience of budgetary management and commercial awareness
路A solid understanding and application of CDM and Health & Safety legislation
路The ability to mentor and support junior engineers
