Our client, a respected and fast-growing distributor of construction products, is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Distribution Manager to oversee their logistics and warehouse operations from their Essex site.This is a critical leadership role focused on optimising the full distribution cycle, ensuring compliance, and developing a high-performing team in a business that runs its own transport network.
The Role
As Distribution Manager, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of warehouse and transport operations, ensuring products are stored, picked, and dispatched efficiently. You will play a key role in maintaining compliance with H&S and environmental standards, enhancing the use of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and leading on performance management and team development.
Key Responsibilities

Oversee all aspects of warehouse and transport operations to meet delivery KPIs and customer expectations.

Coordinate stock control, goods-in/goods-out, and route planning across a self-managed fleet.

Lead and develop the operations team through appraisals, training, and performance reviews.

Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation, environmental standards, and ISO 14001 processes.

Drive improvements across the operation, identifying and implementing process efficiencies.

Utilise and optimise Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) to enhance tracking and reporting.

Act as a key compliance contact for audits, internal reviews, and operational policies.

Champion a culture of safety, accuracy, and high performance throughout the distribution function.
About You

Proven experience in a Distribution Manager or senior logistics role within a warehouse or supply chain environment.

Background in a business operating its own transport/delivery network is highly desirable.

Forklift licence is advantageous.

In-depth knowledge of WMS systems and stock management processes.

Strong leadership skills with experience delivering team training, appraisals, and performance development.

Practical understanding of Health & Safety regulations, risk assessments, and ISO 14001 standards.
