About the Role:

We are seeking aResearch Assistantto join our Animal Science team on a short-term project. This role will play a central part indata handling, analysis, and interpretation, supporting research that explores relationships between disability, demographic factors, and key performance metrics within higher education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Access and manage national-level datasets (HESA/HEIDI Plus) in compliance with data governance protocols.
  • Conduct descriptive and inferential statistical analyses to identify trends and relationships.
  • Create clear and engaging data visualisations, including charts, tables, and dashboards.
  • Support classification of land-based subject areas within national datasets.
  • Summarise findings in written reports, tables, and infographics.
  • Contribute to project outputs, including internal briefings.
  • Attend weekly team meetings.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Strong quantitative data analysis skills with experience handling large, complex datasets.
  • Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R, Python, or Stata).
  • Ability to clean and manage datasets, perform statistical tests, and interpret results accurately.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to data integrity.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small research team.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Familiarity with higher education datasets (e.g., HESA student or graduate outcomes data).
  • Experience analysing demographic or EDI-related data.
  • Interest in widening participation, disability inclusion, or education policy.
  • Understanding of UK higher education, particularly land-based or applied science disciplines.
