We are currently recruiting on behalf of Essex County Council for an experienced Locum Social Worker to join their Family Support & Protection Team based in Chelmsford. This is a community-based role with a strong emphasis on relationship-based practice, safeguarding, and early intervention to deliver long-term positive outcomes for children and families.
This is an initial 3-month contract with the possibility of extension, ideal for social workers with strong assessment, planning, and direct work skills who thrive in a collaborative environment.

Rate: £35 per hour
Contract: 3 months (likely to extend)

As a Social Worker in the Family Support and Protection Team, you will:
Conduct complex assessments and formulate effective support plans
Carry out interventions to safeguard children and improve long-term outcomes
Collaborate with partner agencies and local services to build resilience in families
Work to statutory standards while promoting a child-centred and strengths-based approach
Participate in case discussions, reviews, and court proceedings where necessary
Deliver services within Essex's values of integrity, compassion, and collaboration
Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration
Minimum of 3 years frontline experience
Proven experience in family support, child protection, or safeguarding teams
A full driving licence and access to a vehicle
Strong report writing and communication skills
A commitment to keeping children safe and supporting families effectively
