Hours: Monday - Thursday, 7am - 4pm | Friday, 7am - 1pm
About the Role
We're seeking an experienced Tool Design Engineer to take the lead in the design and development of complex tooling and precision engineering solutions. This is a pivotal role where you'll have ownership of projects from concept through to completion, ensuring every design meets the highest standards of quality, functionality, and manufacturability.
You'll be working closely with clients, engineers, and production teams, providing technical expertise and leadership. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives on solving engineering challenges and delivering innovative solutions within a fast-paced, high-precision environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design of press tools and fixtures using advanced CAD software
- Manage design projects from concept through to final approval
- Collaborate with clients, providing expert technical input and guidance
- Ensure all designs are optimised for manufacturing, cost-efficiency, and performance
- Review and mentor the work of other design team members
- Maintain accurate design documentation and ensure compliance with ISO standards
- Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation in the design process
- Create detailed process instructions for new tooling introduction
- Produce precise, detailed engineering drawings
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience as a Design Engineer within tooling and precision engineering
- Proficiency in CAD software, including CATIA V5
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes - particularly forming using hydraulic and hydroforming presses
- Excellent problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work to deadlines
- Strong communication skills with a collaborative, team-focused approach
- Leadership qualities or experience mentoring others
