We are looking for a dedicated professional to join a specialist Alternative Provision school in Cheltenham, working with students who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

About the School:

This is a nurturing and inclusive educational setting designed to re-engage young people with learning by focusing on their strengths, supporting their emotional development, and building trust. The school provides tailored learning experiences for pupils who may have struggled in mainstream education, often due to trauma, adverse childhood experiences, or behavioural challenges linked to underlying emotional needs.

The Role:

As a Design and Technology Teacher, you will be instrumental in helping students develop both practical skills and confidence. You'll deliver creative and engaging lessons that are adapted to meet individual learning styles and emotional needs, promoting resilience, problem-solving, and a sense of achievement.

This position involves planning, delivery, and assessment, and offers the opportunity to build meaningful relationships that can have a lasting impact on students' lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and differentiated Design and Technology lessons to small groups of students with SEMH needs
  • Foster a calm, structured, and therapeutic learning environment
  • Plan creative, hands-on projects that build practical and interpersonal skills
  • Support students' social and emotional development through consistent and compassionate interaction
  • Work collaboratively with support staff, pastoral teams, and external agencies
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school through enrichment activities or vocational projects

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • QTS or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Strong subject knowledge in Design and Technology (any specialism considered)
  • Experience working with students with SEMH, SEN, or in an alternative education setting (desirable but not essential)
  • Exceptional behaviour management skills, rooted in empathy, patience, and trauma-informed practice
  • A positive, adaptable attitude and commitment to inclusive education
  • The ability to build trust, provide emotional containment, and create a safe space for learners

Salary:

£160 - £300 per day PAYE (depending on experience and pay scale)
