Seeking Specialist Support for a Remarkable Young Person with Complex Needs

We are looking for compassionate, experienced individuals to support a young person living with a rare genetic condition — 16p13.11 microdeletion syndrome — which presents a range of complex medical and developmental challenges.

This young person is full of personality and warmth. The young individual is looking to access Day Centre activities in the school holidays and after school support during term times. This individual will thrive in a calm, sensory-aware environment where they feel safe, supported, and understood.

Overview of Needs:

  • Mobility: Unable to walk or move independently. Requires full assistance with all physical activities and postural support, including sitting and repositioning. Full assistance with personal care required.
  • Learning & Development: Has a learning disability and significant global developmental delay, with limited fine motor skills. Engages best through tailored communication and sensory interaction.
  • Epilepsy: Lives with complex epilepsy, including absence and myoclonic jerk seizures, which are frequently triggered by sound. This significantly impacts daily routines and requires a highly controlled, low-stimulation environment.
  • Dystonia: Experiences muscle stiffness and involuntary movements in the arms and legs, requiring careful handling and ongoing therapeutic input.
  • Scoliosis: Severe scoliosis affects breathing due to rib compression on the lungs. Close monitoring and respiratory-aware support are essential.

We are seeking individuals who are:

  • Patient, gentle, and emotionally attuned
  • Experience with supporting individuals with complex epilepsy and management with sound sensitivity
  • Confident in providing full physical and personal care, including moving and handling
  • Familiar with respiratory and postural care
  • Comfortable using non-verbal and sensory communication strategies
  • Must be a driver with a full UK driving licence, as will be required to drive client's mobility vehicle

A Rewarding Opportunity

Supporting this young person is both a responsibility and a privilege. While their needs are extensive, so too is their capacity to form meaningful, trusting bonds with those who take the time to understand them.

This is an opportunity to make a real difference in someone’s life — offering not only essential care, but also consistency, comfort, and a sense of joy in each day.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: £13.50 per hour

Shift:

  • Day shift

Work days:

  • After school midweek term times, weekends, 3 days a week in school holidays.
