Our client, a historic estate based in Durham, is seeking an Accounts Assistant to support the smooth and efficient operation of their financial function. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dedicated team at the heart of a beautifully maintained estate, where your work will directly contribute to the long-term sustainability of a heritage-rich environment.

About the Role:

As an Accounts Assistant, you’ll play a key role in day-to-day financial operations across multiple entities. From bookkeeping and reconciliations to supporting VAT returns and year-end accounts, this is a hands-on and varied position ideal for someone with a strong foundation in finance and a proactive, detail-oriented approach.

Please note: Due to the rural location, a full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Processing invoices across various estate-related entities
  • Maintaining weekly and monthly bookkeeping records
  • Reconciling bank accounts and inter-entity balances
  • Assisting with VAT returns and Partial Exemption calculations
  • Supporting the preparation of management and year-end accounts
  • Involvement in credit control, including debtor and creditor analysis
  • Providing general financial and administrative support to the Financial Controller

What We're Looking For:

  • Qualified AAT or part-qualified ACA/ACCA with relevant experience
  • Strong experience in accounts preparation and reconciliations
  • Familiarity with Xero, AutoEntry, and strong proficiency in Excel (preferred)
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Clear and confident communicator with a collaborative mindset
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines effectively
