We are looking for a compassionate, patient, and dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide individual support for two Year 1 pupils with special educational needs.

  • Pupil A: Non-verbal, with high-level Autism Spectrum Disorder

  • Pupil B: Has Down Syndrome

Your time will be split between both children, ensuring each receives tailored help in their learning, communication, and emotional development.

We are a mainstream Primary school. The hours for this role are 08:30-16:00 Monday to Friday. Immediate start!

Please note, you MUST be able to commute to Chesterfield.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils in 1:1 or small group settings, tailoring learning approaches to individual needs.

  • Assist with implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies.

  • Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social development.

  • Support classroom learning activities and adapt resources as needed.

  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment for all pupils.

Requirements:

  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND, preferably in a school or educational setting.

  • Understanding of behaviour management strategies and individualized support.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with pupils and staff.

  • Patience, empathy, and a positive, restorative approach.
