GSL Education are currently welcoming applications for a committed and enthusiastic Primary Teaching Assistant to work in a Special Educational Needs (SEN) school based in Chesterfield. This full-time opportunity is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting young pupils with a variety of additional learning needs.

About the Role

As a Primary Teaching Assistant in an SEN setting, your role will involve working closely with class teachers, therapists, and pastoral teams to support pupils aged 4–11 who require tailored and compassionate educational guidance. You will be instrumental in helping children thrive both academically and emotionally in a structured, nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual education plans (IEPs)
  • Assist in classroom management and lesson delivery under teacher direction
  • Promote inclusive practices and a positive classroom culture
  • Encourage the development of key skills in communication, literacy, and numeracy
  • Support pupils with physical, emotional, or behavioural difficulties
  • Ensure pupils’ safety and well-being at all times, including during off-site activities

Job Requirements:

  • Prior experience working with children with SEN is desirable, especially in a primary or care-based setting
  • Strong understanding of early childhood development and primary education principles
  • A nurturing, resilient, and patient disposition
  • Ability to follow instructions and adapt quickly to pupils’ needs
  • Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle is essential due to school location and potential outreach support
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
