We are recruiting on behalf of a leading heavy manufacturing organisation that specialises in large-scale fabricated components and complex engineering solutions. As part of their continued growth and commitment to world-class operational standards, they are seeking an experienced QHSE Manager to take ownership of Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental functions across the site.
This role is ideal for a hands-on, influential QHSE professional with a solid background in welding environments, strong working knowledge of ISO 9001, and the ability to drive cultural improvements in a fast-paced, safety-critical manufacturing setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the Quality Management System in line with ISO 9001 requirements.
- Conduct internal audits, supplier audits, and oversee external accreditation audits.
- Implement robust quality assurance and quality control processes, specifically within welded, fabricated, and machined products.
- Review technical specifications, WPS/PQRs, and ensure weld quality meets required codes and standards.
- Manage non-conformance reporting (NCRs), root cause analysis, and continuous improvement actions.
- Own the site’s Health & Safety strategy, ensuring full compliance with HSE legislation.
- Conduct risk assessments, safety inspections, and lead incident investigations.
- Deliver toolbox talks, safety training, and drive proactive behavioural safety initiatives.
- Ensure safe working practices in welding bays, fabrication areas, heavy equipment zones, and high-risk manufacturing operations.
- Support ISO 14001 initiatives (advantageous if previously involved).
- Promote sustainability and environmental awareness onsite.
Experience & Qualifications
- Proven experience as a QHSE Manager, Quality Manager, or Senior QHSE Engineer within heavy manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial engineering.
- Essential: strong welding background – ideally time-served or with significant technical exposure to welding processes, standards, and inspection.
- Demonstrated track record working with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
- Experience managing QHSE within fast-paced production environments involving heavy machinery, cranes, fabrication, and high-risk processes.
- Strong understanding of risk assessments, incident investigations, and root-cause methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, Ishikawa, 8D).
- Confident communicator able to influence at all levels, from shop-floor to senior leadership.
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.
- Relevant engineering or manufacturing qualification (Welding, Mechanical, Fabrication).
- Lead Auditor qualification (ISO 9001 / ISO 14001) beneficial.
- Welding inspection training (CSWIP, PCN, etc.) advantageous.
