Long Term Futures is seeking a compassionate and proactive Midday Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in the north Derby area, supporting secondary aged pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference during the school day's most unstructured periods.
About the Role:
As a Midday Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring a safe, structured, and supportive breakfast and lunchtime environments. You will work closely with a small team to help pupils navigate social situations, manage behaviour, and re-engage positively with their peers and staff. This role is particularly suited to individuals with experience or interest in working with pupils who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise pupils during breakfast and lunch times, promoting positive behaviour and social interaction.
Support pupils in managing transitions between structured and unstructured parts of the day.
Assist with the organisation and clearing away of lunch, ensuring hygiene and safety standards are met.
Provide one-to-one or small group support as needed, under the guidance of teaching staff.
Assist in the food preparation for lunch, delivering dinners which have been ordered into the school.
- Assist in the preparation and delivery of the breakfast trolleys, including toast, cereal etc.
- Acting as a teaching assistant in food tech lessons.
Person Specification:
Experience working with children with social, emotional, or behavioural needs is desirable.
A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting young people.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow guidance from teaching staff.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Working Hours:
Monday to Friday, 8:00 am - 3:00 pm (term time only).
