GSL Education are currently seeking a committed Attendance Officer to join a well-regarded SEN setting in Chesterfield. This rewarding role plays a vital part in ensuring pupils are engaged in education and supported in overcoming barriers to attendance.

About the Role:

The Attendance Officer will be responsible for monitoring and improving student attendance across the school, particularly among pupils with Special Educational Needs and behavioural challenges such as ASD, ADHD, ODD, and SEMH. The role requires a proactive individual who can build positive relationships with pupils, families, and multi-agency teams.

Responsibilities of an Attendance Officer:

  • Track, record and analyse daily student attendance data
  • Conduct home visits and liaise with families to address persistent absence
  • Work in close partnership with school leaders and external agencies
  • Promote a culture of high attendance and punctuality within the school
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and report patterns of concern
  • Attend multi-agency meetings where necessary
  • Ensure compliance with school policies, legal obligations, and safeguarding procedures
  • Support during school holidays for designated attendance-related duties

Attendance Officer Job Requirements:

  • Previous school-based experience as a Attendance Officer is essential
  • Understanding of attendance legislation and safeguarding procedures
  • A valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle with business insurance
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to deal sensitively with challenging behaviour and vulnerable pupils
  • Experience supporting children with ASD, ADHD, ODD, and SEMH is desirable
  • Enhanced DBS registered on the update service (or willingness to apply)
