Contract Opportunity: Senior Mechanical Engineer
Location: North West (Hybrid - minimum 2 days per week in the office)
Contract Length: 12 months (with strong likelihood of extension)
Rate: 50 per hour (Outside IR35)
Hours: 4-day week (Monday to Thursday, 10-hour days)
We're looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a growing team delivering complex, safety-critical projects in the nuclear sector. This role is ideal for someone looking to step into a technically engaging position with strong long-term prospects and a supportive working environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver high-quality mechanical design work in accordance with nuclear and project-specific standards.
Produce and review engineering documentation including specifications, calculations, and drawings.
Ensure designs comply with relevant legislation and standards, including CE marking and the Machinery Directive.
Support and contribute to design reviews, HAZOPs, and risk assessments.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure effective technical delivery.
Work across all phases of the project lifecycle, from concept to detailed design.
Ideal Candidate:
Solid background in mechanical engineering within the nuclear sector.
Experience in the design of safety-critical mechanical systems - glovebox experience is highly desirable.
Proficient in Inventor and/or SolidWorks for 3D modelling and detailed design.
Familiar with CE marking, the Machinery Directive, and relevant compliance processes.
Familiar with nuclear regulatory standards and procedures (e.g., AWE, Sellafield).
Strong communicator with good problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Security Clearance (SC) is highly advantageous.
