My client are a main contractor winning a lot of work across the northwest region, As a buyer you will have previous experience purchasing construction materials. Providing the best quality and price for construction projects. Projects range from £5million to around £19million. Working within a variety of mainstream construction sectors, housing, residential, education, commercial and industrial.
You will be able to manage your work workload, prioritize daily tasks, work best practice in costing and pricing materials for construction projects.
Role Responsibilities
To place purchase orders with approved suppliers only in accordance with budgets & specification.
All orders, quotations etc. to be saved on the server in the relevant project folders.
All orders sent to suppliers to be copied to the site team and project QS.
To obtain three quotes for all orders as standard procedure.
Where applicable, to query material specifications and look for cost effective alternatives and seek approval from both the internal team and the client's representatives prior to orders being placed.
Liaise with the commercial team in all matters relating to spend and value
As and when required you will be required to deal and communicate with the design team both internal and external regarding all material matters that are applicable to the projects you are involved in
To ensure their projects Requisition Trackers are regularly kept up to date.
Attend pre-start project meetings, issuing Procurement Schedule and Brick & Block Delivery Schedules for completion by site team.
Manage and update Procurement Schedule and distribute to all relevant stakeholders.
Liaise with accounts department regarding invoice and supplier disputes.
Attend team meetings (on site and in the office) and report on all buying aspects of the project
Collate material aspects of enquiries in conjunction with the estimating department.
To update and maintain supplier database as and when required
The assistance with O&M Manuals towards the end of each project.
Maintain and promote a level of professionalism befitting the department, both internally and with our supply chain partners current and future.
Requirements
An experienced materials and plant buyer with a proven track record of working in a similar role
Previous experience within the construction sector is essential
Strong IT literacy skills
Ability to build good relationships with external and internal stakeholders
Excellent communication and organisation skills
Attention to detail.
