Role Overview

Reporting to the Site Manager, you will be responsible for assisting in the running of our Warehouse & Distribution site with circa 40 employees and providing cover when the Site Manger is absent.

You will be expected to contribute to the delivery of safe, efficient and quality operations.

Primary focus will be on assisting with MHE, Facilities, H&S and management of the warehouse team including supervisors. You will be expected to liaise frequently with the Facilities Manager, Group Business Compliance Partner (H&S) and Warehouse Supervisors to achieve these tasks.

You will be asked to ensure that the warehouse supervision team are aware of immediate and upcoming work, plan and co-ordinate appropriate labour and report potential resource shortfall/excess to the Site Manager ahead of time.

You will take responsibility for first line troubleshooting of daily tasks/issues that are reported by the Supervision team, reporting and escalating issues as required to the Site manager.

You may often be the most senior person on site and as such, must take responsibility for ensuring the site is open on time and securely locked and alarmed at close. That may be directly or through delegation of carefully selected key holders and procedures outlined by the business.

At times you will be asked to liaise with HR to maintain HR records and occasionally assist with interviews, PDRs or disciplinary investigations.

Key Responsibilities

· Maintain H&S, Facilities & MHE records, ensuring staff training records, MHE servicing/inspections and H&S actions are dealt with in a timely manner.

  • Effectively manage the warehouse team, including Warehouse Supervisors.
  • Take responsibility for and contribute to maintaining and improving efficiencies using warehouse KPIs.
  • Notify the business of any critical issues that occur during management absence.
  • Liaising with the Facilities Manager and contractors in regards to works being done on site.
  • Ensuring that forklifts and other MHE, along with ladders, are inspected before use.
  • The compliance of weekly or daily site inspections by the Supervisors & Line Managers.
  • Ensuring that Line Managers & Supervisors are training workers for the task that they are given.
  • Issuing workload detail and instruction to Line Managers & Supervisors.
  • Contribute to the planning of inbound and outbound goods to ensure on time delivery to our customers.
Key Skills & Experience
  • A positive, can do attitude with a desire to go above and beyond when needed.
  • Well organised with keen initiative.
  • A polite but firm delivery of tasks to the warehouse team.
  • Previous knowledge of WMS is essential.
  • A recognised Operations qualification or equivalent industry experience is desired.
  • IOSH or NEBOSH H&S is desired but, training will be provided if the successful candidate doesn’t have this.
  • Proven experience of Supervision or Management.
  • Excellent communication skills in all directions (with reports and stakeholders in the business).
