Key Responsibilities:

Supporting the Head Chef in planning and preparing meals for residents, ensuring that their individual dietary needs and preferences are met

Managing food preparation and cooking processes, maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene

Assisting with menu planning, portion control, and stock management

Providing leadership and direction to kitchen staff in the absence of the Head Chef
-
Ensuring compliance with all relevant health, safety, and hygiene regulations
-
Creating a warm and pleasant mealtime environment for residents, ensuring that food is served in an appealing and enjoyable way
-
Assisting with the training and development of junior kitchen staff
-
Handling any kitchen-related queries from residents or staff
Requirements:
-
Proven experience in a professional kitchen environment, ideally in a care home or similar setting

Knowledge of dietary needs and nutrition for the elderly or those with specific dietary requirements (e.g., allergies, soft diets, diabetes)

Strong understanding of food hygiene and health & safety standards
-
Ability to work well in a team and communicate effectively with residents and staff
-
A passion for cooking and providing high-quality food in a care environment
-
Ability to work flexibly, including weekends and holidays as required
Desirable:
-
Experience of managing or supervising kitchen staff
-
Knowledge of specific dietary restrictions for elderly care, such as dysphagia or texture-modified diets
-
DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
