Pertemps Recruitment are currently hiring for an Associate Principal Engineer for one of our clients based in Clevedon, BS21.  In this key role, you will lead a team of engineers to deliver best-in-class mechanical engineering solutions for semiconductor manufacturing equipment. Your focus will be on managing projects from concept through to commissioning, ensuring they meet environmental, safety, and regulatory standards. You will collaborate with a wide range of teams to deliver solutions that are safe, efficient, and compliant. Key Details

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead and Mentor Engineers: Directly manage and motivate a team of approximately 6 mechanical engineers, ensuring cohesive teamwork and the achievement of project milestones. 
  • Project Ownership: Guide projects from concept through to customer commissioning, ensuring they meet time, cost, quality, and specification requirements. 
  • Best Practices Leadership: Champion the adoption of best mechanical engineering practices to drive efficiency and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards. 
  • Work Package Management: Design and assign work packages across cross-functional teams, ensuring successful project completion through all key milestones. 
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure all mechanical engineering work is compliant with industry standards, regulations, and product requirements. 
  • Subject Matter Expertise & Mentorship: Provide expert guidance and mentorship to engineers, assisting in their professional development. 
Skills, Knowledge, and ExperienceQualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (essential);
  • Master’s Degree (desirable), or equivalent experience. 
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards professional registration with a recognised engineering institution (desirable). 
  • Functional Safety qualifications (desirable). 
Experience
  • Extensive experience in mechanical engineering and design within a related engineering industry (essential). 
  • Experience in a regulated, compliance-driven industry, such as semiconductor manufacturing equipment (desirable). 
  • Experience in designing and developing products through the full product development lifecycle (essential). 
  • Familiarity with design-for-X principles, including manufacturability, cost, and maintainability (essential). 
  • Knowledge of safety and design review methods such as PHA, HAZOP, FMEA, and industry standards like SEMI S2 (desirable). 
  • Knowledge or experience in the semiconductor industry or similar regulated environment (desirable). 
Skills
  • Strong technical expertise in mechanical design and engineering practices (essential). 
  • Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and guide engineers effectively. 
  • Ability to manage complex projects, ensuring adherence to compliance requirements and clear communication with stakeholders. 
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities with a calm, analytical approach to addressing challenges. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence across various levels of the organisation. 
  • Ability to review and release engineering drawings to BS8888 and P&ID (essential). 
  • Willingness to travel occasionally, both nationally and internationally (desirable).
