Overall Purpose:
The Finance Transition Lead will be responsible for ensuring that all necessary financial systems, processes, and people are in place to support effective financial management across the company as it transitions to its new Operating Model, ensuring efficiency and effective systems and processes in working with industry partners to deliver the STEP prototype power plant. This role is pivotal in enabling the finance function to operate efficiently in a dynamic environment with multiple high-value supplier contracts and a complex delivery landscape.
The successful candidate will lead the design and implementation of critical finance processes, working with the rest of the finance senior leadership team to ensure finance readiness for the next UKIFS transition milestone. A key focus will be on ensuring system readiness, robust payment processes, ensuring preparedness for volume and complexity scale-up, and efficient tracking of contract costs.
Accountabilities:
Finance Transformation Leadership: Drive the end-to-end transition of the finance function, ensuring alignment with the organisation's delivery objectives. Ensure delivery of all Finance scope in the overall Transition Programme and ensure that all finance elements of end-to-end business processes are integrated and functional. Act as finance function expert to the Transition Programme to support development and delivery of wider business processes. Ensure dependencies with other functions and processes are mapped, integrated and well-managed.
- Financial Systems & Process Implementation: Ensure that finance systems, reporting structures, and workflows are designed, tested, and implemented to support efficient operations, including procure-to-pay and payment processing.
- Accounting & Compliance: Ensure accounting, tax, and regulatory compliance policies frameworks align with post-transition operating environments.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Ensure, working with other SLT members, there is an effective post transition financial planning framework in place that enables effective budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking for work packages.
- Cash Management: Update cash forecasting approach to ensure a smooth cash management process for management of large transactions.
- Contract & Supplier Financial Management: Implement controls and reporting mechanisms to manage financial aspects of contracts with three major suppliers, ensuring compliance with agreed work packages and payment terms.
- Finance Organisation Design: Define the optimal finance team structure, roles, and responsibilities to support project delivery and long-term business objectives. Support the Finance Senior team in defining capability frameworks for their respective areas and a finance development plan on building the finance function in UKIFS.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with the remainder of the finance team, the transition team, project teams, and other partners to ensure finance transformation objectives are met.
- Risk & Control Framework: Establish and oversee financial risk management, ensuring strong internal controls and governance across all finance operations.
- Corporate Services Agreement: working closely with the UKAEA finance team and other Finance SLT, ensure the services delivered by the Parent are integrated into transition planning, are updated as necessary and the people and processes are in place in time to ensure effective transition.
Qualifications
- Professional finance qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) preferred.

- Deep knowledge of accounting standards, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Experience in managing large-scale supplier contracts and financial oversight of work packages.
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to drive change across multiple teams.
- Proficiency in finance systems implementation and digital transformation initiatives.
