Full-Time Teacher - Children’s Residential Care Colchester CO3

We’re seeking a dedicated and adaptable ClassTeacher to work within our residential care setting, providing tailored education to children with emotional and behavioural difficulties. This is more than a teaching role - it’s a chance to make a lasting difference.

  • Hours Monday to Friday 08:30-16:30, for 4 children.

About Us:

We provide safe, therapeutic residential homes for children aged 7-17, who have experienced trauma, neglect, or adverse childhood experiences. Our on-site education provision will play a vital role in helping each young person re-engage with learning in a way that works for them.

We will combine structure, patience, and creativity to build trust, encourage personal growth, and support every child to realise their potential - educationally, emotionally, and socially.

Teacher The Role

As our Teacher, you’ll work with a small number of pupils, delivering a broad and balanced curriculum tailored to each child’s needs, with learning support assistance. You'll help build their confidence, resilience, and a positive relationship with learning - often for the first time.

Key Responsibilities of a Teacher:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, individualised lessons across core and foundation subjects- Including English, Maths, Science and Humanities
  • To facilitate vocational learning through Asdans, AQA awards and BTECs
  • Deliver motivational class projects to build social skills, life skills and a love of learning
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support SEMH, EBD, and SEND needs
  • Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
  • Work closely with care staff, therapists, and external professionals to ensure holistic support
  • Track progress, set realistic targets, and celebrate achievements
  • Promote personal, social, and emotional development alongside academic progress
  • Contribute to EHCP reviews and support safeguarding protocols

Requirements for our Teacher

  • A Teaching Qualification is essential, and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or QTLS) is desirable
  • Experience working with children with SEMH, EBD, or within alternative provision is highly desirable
  • Calm, resilient, and emotionally intelligent
  • Able to build strong, trusting relationships with young people who may be disengaged or vulnerable
  • A trauma-informed approach and understanding of attachment-aware practice
  • Creative, flexible, and reflective in your teaching style
