1:1 SEN Learning Support Assistant – Colchester (Primary)

Contract: Full-time

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced 1:1 SEN Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Colchester. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and committed to helping them thrive both academically and emotionally.

About the role:
As a 1:1 SEN LSA, you will work closely with a child who requires additional support, following their personalised learning plan and assisting them throughout the school day. You will collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to create a nurturing, inclusive environment where the pupil can succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support to a pupil with special educational needs

  • Assist with learning activities, emotional regulation, and daily routines

  • Implement strategies outlined in the child’s EHCP or support plan

  • Use positive behaviour management techniques

  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to track progress and adapt support

  • Promote independence, confidence, and engagement in learning

What we’re looking for:

  • Previous experience working 1:1 with children with SEN (e.g., ASD, ADHD, SEMH, speech & language needs)

  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships

  • Understanding of safeguarding and behaviour support strategies

  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
