Job Title: SEN Learning Support Assistant (Short-Term Cover) – Colchester

About the role: TeacherActive are seeking an enthusiastic and committed SEN Learning Support Assistant to provide short-term support for pupils with additional learning needs in a Colchester-based school. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a positive difference during a busy term and gain valuable experience in a supportive, inclusive environment.
Key responsibilities:
- Support pupils with diverse learning needs in class, small groups, and 1:1 settings
- Assist with structured activities and differentiated learning plans
- Monitor and track pupil progress, reporting back to teaching staff
- Encourage independence, social development, and positive behaviour
- Support with personal care as required (in line with school policy)
- Assist with classroom management and risk assessment
- Contribute to inclusive practices and safeguarding procedures
Requirements:
- Experience working with children or young people, ideally in an SEN setting
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant; CACHE; SEN experience) are desirable
- Patience, resilience, and a proactive, flexible approach
- Good communication skills with pupils, parents, and staff
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupils’ welfare
- Ability to adapt to changing needs and cover different year groups as required
- DBS on the update service (or willing to obtain one through TeacherActive)
