Our clientFounded in 1926, Thomas Swan & Co Ltd is a leading independent manufacturer of performance and speciality chemicals.  The company manufactures over 100 products, from kilogramme to multi-tonne quantities, and offers an experienced and flexible customer manufacturing service. Thomas Swan is unique within the chemical industry and as a family owned, private business we have the flexibility and speed of decision making that is the envy of larger companies.  The business is remarkably diverse and has technical capabilities that are rare for an SME.  Despite our size we are an increasingly global company with 75% exports, a sales and distribution office in New Jersey, USA, and a sales and distribution office in Shanghai, China.  Perhaps most importantly, we love what we do, and we are passionate about growing the business.  The OpportunityReporting to the Technical Manager, in this newly created role you will provide processing engineering expertise to support both new and existing plant and products.  This will include process engineering design, calculations, HAZOP’s, and risk management support to the site.  As Process Engineer, you will work closely with Plant Managers to support the commercialisation of new projects on site, from design through to scale up, but also driving continuous improvement of existing processes.  This is an exciting time at Thomas Swan as the considerable investment in the site is generating a number of new projects on the horizon which will require further investment in capital equipment on site.  About youAs a degree qualified Chemical Engineer, you will have previous experience gained in a Process Engineer role in a COMAH site including providing technical process engineering support to the design of processes and plant to product new products to a wide variety of customers.  As understanding of complex chemistry or batch chemical/paint manufacture will enable you to build effective relationships with key stakeholders internally and externally.  Previous experience in the specification of new equipment/technologies would be advantageous.  With well developed communication skills, you will demonstrate the ability to communicate complex chemical/chemistry issues effectively at all levels within the plant to deliver the best solution for the customer.  Working collaboratively with engineering & production, you will identify opportunities for plant improvement in this dynamic and responsive environment.  This is an exciting time to join a proactive and expanding process engineering team in a values driven business as they move into the next stage of their growth.
