Your future Commercial Manager role

The commercial team play a key role in supporting the delivery of our projects by managing the commercial and contractual requirements, ensuring we complete our works on time, within budget and safely.  Our team act with integrity at all times and take pride in demonstrating the Alstom AIR values(Agile,Inclusive, Responsible).

As the Commercial Manager on the Cork Area Commuter Rail project you will be responsible for optimising margin, whilst protecting Alstom from commercial risk.  You will lead a small commercial team in the administration of the customer contract to ensure we are compliant to the contractual terms and requirements, making sure we are fairly paid by recovering variation costs and submitting timely and accurate applications for payment, continually identifying and mitigating risks and always ensuring we are keeping the records and issuing the notices required to protect Alstom from any customer or supplier claims. It is essential that you have a strong background in delivering railway / infrastructure projects under the NEC(New Engineering Contract) suite of contracts using a target cost arrangement.

The role is part of the core project delivery team and you will be responsible for building a framework of commercial processes, establishing strong customer relationships and recruiting a high performing to work collaboratively with our customers to achieve success. Alstom will be delivering the latest signalling technologies on a major railway scheme for Ireland, helping to provide a better service for the customers and passengers.

As Commercial Manager we’ll look to you for:  

  • Provide commercial expertise and clear guidance on NEC(New Engineering Contract) contract requirements and documentation.
  • Build a strong commercial team and develop positive relationships with the client, sub-contractors and suppliers.
  • Manage the client change control account up to and including final account.
  • Manage the recording of progress and delays, change management and keep relevant contemporaneous records.
  • Produce and issue target cost client application for payments in line with contract requirements and aligned with programme Earned Value.

Qualifications:

  • Educated to graduate entry degree level requirements or equivalent.
  • Up to date Continuing Professional Development records.
  • Professional Qualification with Quantity Surveying related organisation (ideally chartered status) is desirable

Experience:

Contractor background with strong multi-discipline D&B experience

Provide guidance on Quantification, costing of construction works and task elemental cost analysis.

Able to provide guidance on Conflict avoidance, management and dispute resolution procedures.

Knowledge of Planning and the use of programmes in the management of construction works.

Provide guidance on construction industry standard forms of contract and commercial terms

Working knowledge of accounting concepts and the format and preparation of management and company accounts

Knowledge of Health, Safety and Sustainability matters relative to the industry.

Techniques and technologies employed in Rail, signalling in particular is desirable

Proven success in management of Commercial and Quantity Surveying teams is desirable
