Responsibilities and duties of the Operations Technician role
Reporting to the Operations Lead you will:
- Carry out safe and efficient start-up, shutdown, and operation of the plant in line with legislation, company procedures, and industry best practice.
- Monitor plant performance to achieve production targets while ensuring the integrity and reliability of equipment.
- Operate the plant through Control Room DCS systems, monitoring parameters, alarms, and overall system status.
- Undertake routine plant inspections, operational duties, and respond effectively to faults.
- Perform first-line and preventative maintenance tasks to support continuous plant availability.
- Assist in the development, review, and implementation of operational and maintenance procedures.
- Take on the role of Emergency Controller when required, implementing site emergency plans.
- Maintain all required competencies and qualifications relevant to the role, including areas such as First Aid.
- Work flexibly to meet changing operational and business needs.
Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
- Holds a level 3 qualification and is apprentice trained
- A HNC or higher is highly desirable
- Experience operating and maintain industrial plant / equipment, ideally within a power generation site
- A strong understanding of health and safety, including Safe Systems of Work and ideally some exposure to Safety Rules
- An understanding of environmental regulations and permits
- Ability to operate plant via DCS, and respond to alarms and abnormal conditions effectively
Personal skills
- Ability to carry out lone-working and self-motivated
- Strong problem-solving ability and proactive approach
- Willingness to work a shift rota including nights
