Salary: 15.29 to start with after 3 months going up to 15.79
Working hours
Monday to Friday, two shifts to choose from.
- Shift A: 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Shift B: 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Job summary
The successful candidate will be a skilled and experienced CNC Miller, responsible for setting and operating 3- and 5-axis milling machines. You will produce high-quality, precision-machined components to tight tolerances from engineering drawings. This role is offered on a temporary-to-permanent basis, with a compressed working week split across two alternating shifts.
Key responsibilities
Machine operation and setup
- Conduct full machine setups from scratch on CNC milling machines.
- Select, load, and secure the appropriate tooling, jigs, and fixtures.
- Load and run new and existing CNC programs, including safe "prove-out" procedures.
- Make necessary program and offset adjustments to ensure the highest quality is maintained.
- Manufacture parts according to engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Quality assurance
- Perform 1st off and in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment, such as micrometers, verniers, and gauges.
- Check your own work to ensure all quality standards are met and maintain traceability records.
- Produce components to tight tolerances across a variety of materials.
Maintenance and housekeeping
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance checks on machines and equipment.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work area, adhering to all health and safety policies.
- Deburr components during the machining cycle or when required.
Team collaboration
- Work both independently and as part of a team to achieve production targets and meet deadlines.
- Effectively communicate and handover job information to colleagues on the next shift.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
Experience and skills required
- Proven experience: Experience as a CNC Miller Setter Operator in a precision engineering environment.
- Machine controls: Familiarity with common controls such as Fanuc, Heidenhain, or Siemens is often required.
- Reading drawings: The ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Problem-solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Attention to detail: A methodical and quality-focused approach.
- Desirable: Apprentice-trained or an equivalent engineering qualification.
