About the Role
We're looking for a proactive Shift Engineer to join our busy Engineering team within a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. You'll take a hands-on approach to maintaining, repairing, and improving production machinery to keep operations running efficiently and safely.
Working as part of a supportive team, you'll help reduce downtime, improve performance, and ensure all planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive work is completed to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks to minimize downtime and support production targets.
Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and ensure all work orders are completed as scheduled.
Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical faults in a timely and safe manner.
Support production teams by ensuring equipment is clean, safe, and ready to operate.
Record maintenance activity accurately and communicate key issues during shift handovers.
Order and record spare parts correctly, liaising with suppliers or contractors when required.
Work collaboratively with Production, Quality, and Warehouse teams to resolve issues and improve performance.
Ensure full compliance with company policies, health & safety procedures, and food safety (GMP) standards.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance reliability and efficiency.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
Time-served apprenticeship or relevant mechanical/electrical qualification (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
Minimum 2 years' experience in a fast-paced, automated production environment.
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills (mechanical and/or electrical).
Basic understanding of Food Hygiene and Health & Safety.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Computer literate (Word, Excel, maintenance software).
Desirable:
Experience in the food processing or FMCG industry.
Knowledge of PLCs, pneumatics, hydraulics, instrumentation, and temperature control systems.
Welding skills or FLT licence.
