ABC Teachers is looking for a skilled Science Teacher to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) School in Coventry on a full-time basis.

About the Role

The successful candidate will deliver engaging and high-quality science lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4. You will be responsible for supporting pupils with SEMH needs, many of whom may have experience with PRU (Pupil Referral Unit) or Alternative Provision (AP) settings. Your role will involve providing calm, consistent behaviour support, fostering resilience, and helping pupils re-engage with learning in a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and deliver science lessons in line with the national curriculum
• Mark and assess student work, providing clear and constructive feedback
• Maintain high expectations for behaviour, modelling consistent and supportive approaches appropriate for SEMH learners
• Build positive working relationships with pupils, promoting trust, respect, and emotional regulation
• Work collaboratively with the pastoral and behaviour teams to support individual learning plans and targeted interventions
• Attend relevant meetings and participate in school duties as required

The Ideal Candidate

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience teaching Science
• Experience working with SEMH pupils, and experience in PRU or Alternative Provision is highly desirable
• Strong subject knowledge across general science at KS3 and KS4
• Excellent communication, organisational skills, and resilience
• A commitment to supporting vulnerable young people to achieve meaningful academic and personal progress

• Provides specialist education for pupils aged 11 to 16 with SEMH needs
• Focuses on therapeutic, relational approaches and restorative practice
• Offers a flexible and personalised curriculum aimed at re-engaging pupils in education
• Promotes emotional development, self-regulation, and positive relationships
• Based in Coventry, with the position available for an immediate or January start

Requirements

To be considered for the role of Science Teacher, you will need:
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
• A strong background or specialism in Science
• At least 2 years of science teaching experience
• Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs (PRU/AP experience highly beneficial)
• Excellent behaviour management and communication skills
• A valid DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience required for this position is QTS.
