Duties:
This role is a key to enabling the laboratory and supports the Lead Engineer for the ongoing operation of the current and future Internal Combustion & Emissions laboratory capability and you will be in direct technical engagement with our client's University academia and 3rd party engineering teams supporting your associated engineer in the delivery of Engine Testing within the new test cells.
As part of the team, your fundamental role will be to support the supervised operations of associated test cells and the necessary physical activity of preparation of test sample for test, including but not limited to the installation and instrumentation of the unit under test. We will be working collaboratively and in conjunction with the laboratory customers.
This is a small team that needs to cover the breadth of practical, technical and facility operation and is a unique opportunity to be hands on role helping build a team working with our client and other 3rd parties on the university campus.
As a core objective, you will be engaged with the Associated Engineer for the operation of two off Multi Cycle Engine Test Dyno facilities but will need to be flexible in the support of a range of facilities utilising your skills as effectively as possible.It is important to note that this role will initiate on a standard day shift pattern but will migrate to double day shift when skills levels and familiarisation of systems are obtained. This is expected to be no greater than 2 months post start date.
Skills:
- Preparation of unit under test, including internal combustions systems understanding, both spark and compression ignition.
- Fabrication, welding and base level machining is an advantage.
- Understanding of instrumentation installation, such as thermocouples, pressure transducers etc.
- Detail Engine inspection disassemblyand assembly skills.
- Preparation & supervised operation of the key Engine Test facilities under the guidance of your Engineer.
- Support your Engineer in the liaison with customers to derive complete technical test requirements, help in consultations to understand and develop test methodology.
- Operation of facilities and support all processes to defined H&S and other auditable requirements to ISO standards, 16949, 14001 etc.
- Monitor and work with team to transfer knowledge to new team associates when required, derive and deliver familiarisation of equipment for both new and current personnel as required.
- Ensuring facilities are in good working order conducting user maintenance activities and working with equipment suppliers to assist in the full functional maintenance of the laboratory equipment.
- Core accountability of physical operation and upkeep of facility is held by the associated engineer and this position.
Education:
- City & Guilds Level 3 in a suitably associated discipline and or fully time served apprenticeship is required.
- Associated experience will support your application.
