Job Purpose

We are seeking a skilled and highly motivated Service Engineer to join our dedicated team. This pivotal role involves the service, maintenance, fault-finding, and repair of complex electro-mechanical test rigs at various customer sites, primarily located across the Midlands region. The successful candidate will be the face of our company, ensuring customer satisfaction and the optimal performance of their critical testing equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • On-site Service and Maintenance: Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown repairs on complex electro-mechanical test rigs at customer premises.
  • Fault Diagnosis and Resolution: Utilise strong diagnostic skills to identify and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues efficiently.
  • Hydraulics Expertise: Apply essential knowledge and hands-on experience with hydraulic systems, including pumps, valves, actuators, and associated pipework.
  • Customer Interaction: Act as a professional and approachable point of contact for clients, providing clear communication, technical explanations, and exceptional service delivery.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate service records, complete job sheets, and manage service reports in a timely manner.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and company policies while working on customer sites.
  • Equipment Management: Manage personal stock of spare parts and tools effectively.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Technical Expertise: Proven experience in servicing, maintaining, and repairing complex electro-mechanical systems.
  • Hydraulics Knowledge: Essential, demonstrable experience with hydraulic systems is a core requirement for this role.
  • Electrical Competence: Strong understanding of electrical systems, control panels, and wiring (relevant qualifications desired, e.g., 18th Edition, HNC/HND in engineering discipline).
  • Customer Facing: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships with clients and represent the company professionally.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to tackle intricate technical challenges.
  • Driving Licence: A clean, valid UK driving licence is essential for travel to customer sites.

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience with control software or PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers).
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
  • Previous experience in a field service role.
