We are looking for a passionate and experiencedDT Teacher (Food Technology)to join our thriving state school in Reading. If you are a skilled educator with a strong background in food technology, nutrition, and culinary arts, we invite you to bring your expertise to our dedicated Design and Technology Department. In this role, you will have the opportunity to inspire and lead students to develop their practical skills and knowledge in food technology.

About the Role

As anExperienced DT Teacher (Food Technology), you will be responsible for delivering high-quality lessons in food technology across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and potentially Key Stage 5. You will inspire students to explore the impact of food on health, culture, and sustainability while developing their culinary skills in a practical and creative learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering High-Quality Lessons: Plan and teach engaging, challenging, and differentiated lessons in food technology. Foster an environment where students can explore their creativity and develop practical cooking skills.

  • Advanced Skills Development: As an experienced teacher, you'll be expected to guide students through more complex food topics such as advanced cooking techniques, nutrition, food science, and sustainability.

  • Assessment and Feedback: Regularly assess student progress, providing detailed feedback to help them achieve their best. Use data to inform your teaching and support student growth.

  • Curriculum Leadership: Collaborate with colleagues in the DT department to develop, refine, and implement the curriculum. Take ownership of key aspects of the food technology curriculum, ensuring it remains relevant and engaging.

  • Student Engagement: Encourage students to think critically about food-related issues, including health, the environment, and food systems. Inspire them to become responsible, informed consumers.

  • Leadership and Mentoring: As an experienced teacher, you may be called upon to mentor less experienced staff or early career teachers (ECTs), sharing your knowledge and best practices.

  • Extra-Curricular Activities: Lead and support extra-curricular food technology initiatives, such as cooking clubs, school events, or food-related projects, giving students further opportunities to engage with food outside the classroom.

About You

We are looking for an experiencedDT Teacher (Food Technology)who is passionate about food education and eager to contribute to the development of our students. The ideal candidate will bring strong subject knowledge, creativity, and the ability to engage students of all abilities.

You will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)and a degree in Food Technology, Home Economics, or a related subject.

  • Extensive ExperienceteachingFood Technologyat Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with the ability to teach Key Stage 5 an advantage.

  • Astrong passion for food technologyand the desire to help students develop both practical cooking skills and a deep understanding of nutrition, sustainability, and food systems.

  • Proven abilityto differentiate lessons for a wide range of abilities and learning styles, ensuring all students achieve their full potential.

  • Experience withassessment and data analysisto track student progress and inform teaching.

  • Leadership skills, with the potential to lead initiatives within the department or mentor other staff.
