General Maintenance Operative

We are looking for a dedicated Facilities Maintenance Technician to contribute to an effective and efficient premises & facilities service, focusing on both reactive and proactive general maintenance tasks. The successful candidate will actively participate in the development of the Premises & Facilities function and maintain a hands-on, proactive maintenance presence across all premises.



Day to Day of the role:

  • Supervise third-party contractors and ensure completion of work, reporting any issues to the Facilities Coordinator/Head of Workplace.
  • Review third-party Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Maintain external areas/grounds of the premises, with a focus on autumn and winter months.
  • Conduct weekly/monthly health & safety checks and monthly cleaning of grease filters in the staff restaurant.
  • Perform monthly generator tests and provide proactive gritting support during winter.
  • Carry out basic office maintenance, light touch fabric repairs, painting, and decorating as necessary.
  • Manage in-house premises & facilities Service Desk tickets, ensuring regular communication and updates.
  • Maintain a strong focus on Health & Safety and adhere to guidelines.
  • Flexibility to work out of hours and weekends as required and participate in a 24/7/365 on-call rotation.
  • Lead maintenance tasks in a specific area of expertise (e.g., joinery, electrical, plumbing).


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Previous experience within a corporate Facilities or Building Services environment.
  • Multi-skilled in commercial maintenance with knowledge of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM).
  • Computer literate with basic MS Office and Excel skills.
  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent as a minimum.
  • Excellent prioritisation, multi-tasking, and pressure management skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
