Quality InspectorAt Govia Thameslink Rail, we recognise the importance of how we present ourselves to the Public, with regards to our staff and our trains.Our maintenance is a 24/7 ongoing programme to ensure that work required is carried out to an exceptional standard and this includes the aesthetics of our trains and carriages. Our Rolling Stock is going through a constant visual assessment of the condition of the carriage, in particular it's paint finish both internally and externally and seat and grab rail condition throughout the carriage. The importance of this has been further recognised in that we are now looking to appoint 2 Quality Assessors to record aesthetics condition throughout our fleet.Role: We aim to fill 2 positions, one to be based in the Gatwick / Brighton area, with the other to be based further North, ideally, between Croydon and Bedford.The responsibilities will be numerous as follows:* Review the condition of the train, internally and externally* Completing a proforma report of condition, both good and bad * Recording the extent of paint and other damage to include graffiti and seats* Take photographic evidence to support the report. Reports may also be required once aesthetic repair has been carried out to assess/establish the quality of work undertaken.This is an active role with the successful candidates being required to walk long distances to cover the length of the train/s, we are therefore looking for someone with a high degree of personal fitness. Some of the work will be carried out in train toile, so you should be prepared in working in restrictive areas.Travel will be a significant part of this opportunity with assessments and reports being carried out both whilst the train is in service or in depot awaiting repair or maintenance. This means that working hours may need to be flexible from early starts to late finishes and the occasional split day. Effectively you will manage your own activity diary arrangements directly with your supervisor for the week ahead.What are we looking for?Previous painting / application experience, ideally from within the motor/rail industry or Military, although we will consider painters from other industries subject to experience.A keen eye for detail is most important as the majority of the role means looking for faults in paintwork on all rolling stock to include newly improved carriages and reporting it accordingly.Report writing, manually or via laptop. This is critical information so needs to be accurate and succinctFlexibility, you could be traveling between Brighton and Bedford in any one day, important therefore to be able to plan your time effectively around unit availability and train timetables.
