Job Title: Highway Design Engineer (Inside IR35)
Rate: 30/hour (Umbrella)
Contract: 3 Months Initially (likely to extend)
Location: Office based in Crewe (Hybrid - Ideally 3 days/week in-office, flexible)
We are currently seeking Design Engineers at all levels (Junior to Senior) to support the delivery of a variety of transport and highway engineering schemes within a local authority setting.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward-thinking and collaborative team with a strong pipeline of projects ranging in value up to 5 million - including junction upgrades, cycling infrastructure, public realm, and local highway improvements.
Key Responsibilities:


  • Support the design and delivery of highway, civil engineering, and traffic management projects.

  • Prepare and develop design solutions using AutoCAD and ideally Civils 3D.

  • Develop and manage work packages, including pre-construction information.

  • Maintain accurate records for all allocated schemes.

  • Lead or support in progressing Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs).

  • Manage project correspondence and stakeholder interactions, including councillors, parish councils, and the public.

  • Produce technical reports and attend project and stakeholder meetings.

  • Report to the Design Team Leader and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.


Essential Skills & Experience:


  • Proven experience in highway/civil engineering design within a local authority environment.

  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with Civils 3D is highly desirable.

  • Solid understanding and practical experience with Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs).

  • Ability to manage small to large-scale projects from feasibility through to delivery.

  • Effective communication skills and stakeholder management.
