Energy Management Engineer
Location: Crewe
Contract: Until 31st January 2026 (Potential extension)
Hours: 35 per week
IR35 Status: Outside IR35
Working Pattern: Hybrid – Minimum 3 days per week on site

This is a superb opportunity for an experienced Energy Management Engineer to join a cutting-edge electrical systems team within a world-class automotive manufacturing environment. You’ll be responsible for the end-to-end development, integration, validation, and delivery of energy management hardware across multiple programmes.

The role is ideal for a proactive engineer with a strong foundation in energy systems, component delivery, diagnostic tooling, and cross-functional collaboration. Your work will directly impact vehicle energy performance, compliance, and customer satisfaction through robust hardware and systems integration.

Key Responsibilities of the Energy Management Engineer:

  • Develop, integrate, validate, and sign off energy management hardware across various vehicle projects.
  • Review and approve circuit diagrams (Schaltplans), support ECU communication, and lead functional troubleshooting using diagnostics.
  • Support compliance, Functional Safety, and Golden Rules activities including processes such as ENG (Apply online only) (Emissions Control Module Application).
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D teams (Electrical & Electronics, Whole Vehicle, Body & Trim, Motion) to ensure system requirements are met.
  • Manage the introduction and validation of platform changes, B-Releases, BMGs, and K-Releases related to energy management hardware.
  • Provide technical support and documentation to internal teams including Production, Aftersales, Logistics, Purchasing, and Project Management.
  • Work closely with suppliers and Group system engineers to ensure timely and functional component delivery.
  • Validate functional sign-off requirements for all associated components and support software development activities where required.

Skills & Experience Required for the Energy Management Engineer role:

  • Proven experience in component release, change management, and CAD/BOM data handling.
  • Solid understanding of energy management systems including 12V and high-voltage components, DC/DC converters, battery sensing modules, and starter-alternators.
  • Knowledge of medium (48V) and high-voltage systems and their interaction with 12V architecture.
  • Experience with fusing, power delivery, cable sizing, and crash/failure mode validation for power systems.
  • Proficiency in working with CAN, Flexray, and LIN networks, as well as diagnostic tools such as ODIS and IDEX.
  • Skilled in root cause analysis, electrical fault finding, and system troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with Vector tools and general software development understanding.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally within engineering and other departments.

Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
  • Valid UK driving licence is essential.
