Maintenance Operative – Competitive – Croydon

You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of the premises, performing minor repairs, and ensuring that everything is safe and functional. Key Responsibilities:

General Maintenance

  • Perform a variety of maintenance tasks such as painting, basic carpentry, simple plumbing, and electrical work.
  • Repair fixtures and fittings, including door handles, locks, light fittings, and furniture.

Building Upkeep

  • Carry out routine inspections to identify potential maintenance issues.
  • Promptly address maintenance problems, either completing repairs or arranging for specialised contractors.
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas, ensuring that tools are stored correctly.

Health & Safety Compliance

  • Adhere to all relevant health and safety regulations.
  • Identify and address any potential hazards, following safe working practices and using personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.

External Contractor Liaison

  • Work with external suppliers and contractors, ensuring their work meets required standards.
  • Obtain quotes for larger repairs and refurbishments, presenting them for approval.

Customer and Office Support

  • Assist with office moves, furniture assembly, and basic equipment set-up.
  • Respond to maintenance requests from staff and tenants, offering excellent customer service.
  • Keep the Facilities/Office Manager updated on tasks and timelines.

Ad-hoc Duties

  • Help with miscellaneous tasks, such as overseeing deliveries and managing waste.
  • Perform occasional maintenance at other properties owned by the company’s Directors.
  • Undertake housekeeping activities and other duties as needed.

We are looking for someone with:Experience & Personal Attributes

  • Proven experience in a maintenance or handyman role.
  • Practical skills in carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical tasks.
  • An understanding of health and safety regulations in the workplace.
  • Basic IT literacy for logging tasks and communicating via email.

Desirable

  • A relevant vocational qualification (e.g. City & Guilds).
  • A valid UK driving licence.
