Your new role
As a Health and Safety Consultant, you will be reporting to the Head of Health, Safety and Compliance Manager and will be responsible for the development of organisational culture, which promotes the health, safety and fire safety of all employees, clients and the public and supports a safe working environment. You will manage the day-to-day advisory service to departments on Health and Safety issues and risk assessments to enable decisions and judgements to be made, in line with the councils' obligations as an employer and the council's corporate policy. As the Health and Safety Consultant, you will work to minimise operational losses, occupational health problems, accidents and injuries whilst also being able to provide a professional, proactive and commercially focused approach to health and safety service delivery across all council departments.
Key Responsibilities
* Undertake auditing of H&S policies, practices and procedures
* Develop and implement systems to monitor H&S performance
* Advise on all aspects of H&S management - COSHH, Manual Handling, DSE etc.
* Key stakeholder management
* Assist senior colleagues in the H&S team to monitor and audit 3rd party targets.
* Assist in the development of a training plan for statutory and mandatory training.
* Accident and incident investigations and reporting
* Visit sites to monitor compliance with H&S responsibilities and provide feedback for future purposes
What you'll need to succeed
The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a similar health and safety role, preferably from a public sector commercial and housing environment background. In previous roles you would have developed H&S policies, standards and procedures and prepared reports and recommendations. You will be able to provide exceptional H&S and fire safety advice and a track record of working collaboratively with senior managers and colleagues all whilst promoting a positive H&S environment at work. You will be holding an NEBOSH Diploma or Certificate and IOSH membership and show a passion for professional development.
