Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant

Mainstream Primary School - Croydon

A welcoming mainstream primary school in Croydon is seeking a Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to join their team from January 2026. This is a long-term, term-time position supporting pupils who require additional help with behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement in learning.

Contract: Long-term, term-time only



Role Overview:

As a Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and pastoral staff to support pupils who display challenging behaviour. You will help create a calm, structured learning environment and support pupils in developing positive behaviour and social skills.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group behaviour support within the classroom

  • Support pupils in managing emotions and behaviour positively

  • Assist the class teacher in maintaining a focused and structured learning environment

  • Implement agreed behaviour strategies consistently

  • Build positive relationships with pupils to support engagement and progress



Person Specification:

  • Experience supporting children with challenging behaviour (school or similar setting)

  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Confidence working in a mainstream primary school environment
